Christmas Tree Festival

Date Added: 14 December 2009

A first for St.John's church in Alresford was the 2009 Christmas Tree Festival. Supported by 22 local organisations, charities, schools etc. the church was be-decked for 5 days by these small trees plus the usual 14ft large tree. Our Rotary club was one of the 22, and concentrated on the "Thanks for Life", end Polio now campaign. Each tree had a theme and the visitors over the 5 days had to vote for their favourite. It was no easy task; there were some fantastic designs, and decorations. On the Saturday night, there was a concert, by the light of the tree decorations, in aid of "The Save the Children Fund" which raised over £600 for that charity. The Christmas Tree Festival raised over £600, which will be split between St. John's and the Hampshire Air Ambulance appeal.

As the organiser, I was very pleased that the club supported the event. My thanks to Martin Abbott, Bob Germon, & Ian Swann with partners who decorated our tree. Also, to Keith Halls, and Ian Swann who manhandled it to The Swan after the event so we could all enjoy it the following Monday!
Sadly our tree was not in the first three for votes...won by Sun Hill Junior School.
