Spend a Day in

Alresford

Alresford, (pronounced Allsford) is a beautiful Georgian town. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, Alresford was for many centuries a prosperous wool town.

The colour-washed Georgian houses you see today rose from the ashes of great fires in the 17th Century. Visit the many specialist shops selling antiques, gifts, clothes for all ages, antiquarian books, pictures, china, crafts and food for the connoisseur. With pubs, hotels, restaurants and tea rooms, your every need will be satisfied.

Alresford is the perfect place for strolling and there is plenty to please the eye.

Watercress Line

Hampshire's only preserved steam railway. Powerful locomotives haul the trains through 10 miles of beautiful countryside between Alresford and Alton. Visit: www.watercressline.co.uk for running times and more information.

St John's Church The Parish Church

The Church has Norman foundations, with a 17th century tower. This Grade 2 listed building was rebuilt after the last great fire and again in the Victorian times. The French soldiers' graves date back to the Napoleonic Wars.

Old Alresford Pond

Formed in the 12th century as part of a project to dam the Arle stream. Today it is home to wildfowl and otters.

The Fulling Mill Fulling Mill and Riverside Walk

Straddling the River Arle is the thatched timber-framed Fulling Mill. The riverside walk is a delight, but can be muddy in wet weather.

It is also well-known for a range of stylish shops offering designer fashions, art and craft, antiques and clocks as well as china and antiquarian books.
